Letter from Mr Bennett

1982 – Argentina invaded the Falklands; it was a year before the internet arrived, three years before mobile phones and the year I qualified. I have decided that the time has come to hang up my dental forceps, so I will be retiring at the end of June.

My replacement will be Dr Mehul Shah, a youngster in his thirties, doubly qualified in Medicine and Dentistry. It will certainly be strange being on the other side of the mirror in the surgery.
I joined the Buckingham House team when I was 24, a fortnight after I got married. Everyone has been a happy dysfunctional family. My brilliant nurse Lynette has been with me for 20 years, and I must not reveal how long Nic, now the practice manager, was my nurse several years before that.

I have felt privileged to have cared for a fine group of patients. Apart from the dentistry, we have shared moments of joy, sometimes sadness but more often laughter, which is what friendship should be. Seeing new generations of family members coming through my door has always been amazing.
It has all been quite emotional but very satisfying looking back at my career. I am going to miss everyone but am looking forward to new adventures.
